Fog over Bald Porcupine Island
6 June 2021
Aside from the unobscured ocean view and the ability to roll out of bed for a sunrise, we pay stupid money for this room so that we can watch the fog.
It changes by the minute.
We took a walk along the Shore Path in the late afternoon as the fog sneaked in.
The filtered light made the bare rocks on Burnt Porcupine Island stand out.
This is Balance Rock. It's close to the shore and, at low tide, people climb on it.
Gulls, rocks, and guano:
From a distance, this white stuff looked like fuzz, but it's crystals. The rocks were near the shore but inacessible.
This is the island that Egg Rock lighthouse is on. Either the fog is covering the building, or the building nipped off for some afternoon tea.
Here's the edge of Bald Porcupine Island and the artificial breakwater next to it:
This is a closeup of Bald Porcupine's shore:
I think that's Long Porcupine Island hiding under the fog.
Rosa rugosa, beach rose, which comes in pink and white:
There's not much foot traffic at the southern end of the Shore Path. That's Long Porcupine in the distance.
Here's a beetle on the head of a dandelion seed:
They grow tiny azalea flowers up here.
Jack spotted the little metal moose in somebody's yard.
More fog over more Porcupines:
The gulls and cormorants have claimed these two floating docks:
The next morning there was more fog. I watched kayakers cross the bay from behind Bar Island toward Sheep Porcupine Island.
The western tip of Sheep Porcupine Island is now my favorite island tip to take pictures of from the hotel room:
The tide was out, so we decided to walk over to the sand bar and onto Bar Island. By the time we got there, the fog had made other plans.
