Maine 2025 9: Sunset

The Golden Hour, Frenchman Bay

19 June 2025

The Balance Rock in faces the Shore Path, so it was an easy walk down the back lawn to the path. This was June 2, our last night in Bar Harbor.

Balance Rock, with Bald Porcupine Island behind it:

The sun was behind heavy clouds when we arrived at the Town Pier.

Margaret was coming in from her evening sail as kayakers passed by the pier.

I walked down the plank to the floating dock again. A woman was lying on the dock already, with a real camera set on rapid-fire. She clearly knew what she was doing.

I politely asked if I could scooch in next to her to take some pictures through the cleat hole again. I felt uncomfortable getting in her space like this, so I only took a few shots and didn't check them after. The sunset was out of focus. Derp.

She saw what I was doing and, after I stood up, went and did the same.

She probably got a zillion good ones.

I walked back up the plank and looked towards town. The orange sky was reflected in the windows again.

Jack was sitting on a bench facing east. I found the photographer there too, and showed her the window shots so she could get them next time. We talked for a bit. She was a frequent traveler to the US and had already seen more of it than I have. She asked me to give her the URL for my blog. So, if you're reading this, I hope my pictures don't suck too much. My camera was dying. That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it.
