Bar Island Sand Bar
6 July 2026
Bar Harbor's weather on May 28 was threatening rain all morning. I took some pictures of the western tip of Sheep Porcupine Island, where a stand of trees that has been dying over the years is now mostly dead.
From the balcony, I couldn't tell if this was one boat or two tied together as it/they moved out of the harbor.
It was a good day to wander around town and to check out the new bookstore, Hidden Barn Books. After lunch, Jack went back to the room and I ventured out to the sand bar.
Hello, kitty!
CAT Ferry
The tide was mostly out, still going out.
Tradition has me visiting Mustache Rock (my own name for it) whenver the water is low enough.
I named Hipster Rock a few years ago. It's so covered in seaweed now that the name doesn't really fit anymore. It's less a hipster beard than a Cousin It.
That's the Margaret Todd out for her afternoon sail:
The CAT's motors were running.
When I looked up again, the CAT was gone. I waited for it to appear between the islands as it left for Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
I walked back to the hotel along West Street, in time to see a group of kayakers return to shore.
The tables are Stewman's. Great view. Bad food.
We ate dinner at Jack's second-favorite spot: Havana. It's all about the wine list. You're familiar with "bike face." Jack gets "Yqem face."
