Wandering Between Plans

The souvenir shops are profiting from our problems.

11 March 2017

We had two goals today:  to see the Sir John Soane's Museum; and to see T2, the sequel to "Trainspotting." In between, we wandered.

We walked there, passing behind our hotel, where, at noon, there was a game on. The third window in from the left, second from the top, is our room, my backpack pushing aside the curtain.

I wanted to try the coffee at TAP. There are three locations, one of which is near our hotel. It was good for what it was, but what it was was fruity, and that's not my favorite. There were a couple more black bikes, though, so that was good.

Plain Jim, this saddle is for you:

Walking through University College London's campus, we passed a Buddha statue and a student, both in lotus position, but with starkly different reasons. Look closely; you'll get it.

I couldn't take any pictures inside the Sir John Soane's Museum.

We took a bus up to Islington. There's skill and talent involved in climbing the stairs of a double-decker while the bus is moving. I'm a little rusty.

We stopped at The Sampler, where, in December 2015, I sat at this table, surfing eBay while Jack tasted wines, and found the Colnago frame that would become Rowlf. Alas, there is not yet a plaque commemorating the event.

City bikes in their stall:

T2: Trainspotting is the sequel to Trainspotting. It won't be out in the States until the end of the month. If you're a fan of the first one, you should see this one. You might want to read a little Irvine Welsh to prep your ears for Begbie and Spud. Welsh had a hand in this one, set 20 years after Trainspotting, with the same characters and the same actors. His novel, "Porno," is the jumping-off point, but the movie has little, if anything, to do with the book. This movie is heavier than the first, with plenty of intentional flashbacks to the first film seen through the eyes of people who have aged but not moved on. Read more
